My name is Juanita Marie Butler. I am a wife and a stay-at-home mom of two. Additionally, I’m an interior designer. In 2006, I graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts, concentration in Interior Design. Following graduation, I worked for 2 years at a design firm specializing in model home merchandising. Due to the collapse of the economy, I was laid off. For a long period of time, I wondered if I had wasted 4 years of my life pursuing a degree that I couldn’t use. I questioned if I was really meant to be a designer. After working at a couple of non-design related jobs, I realized that I missed it. Design is my passion; it’s what I enjoy! With a recent move from Atlanta to Charleston, I’m hoping that this blog can get me back in touch with my creative side and help me make my way back into the design world.
My philosophy is that your personal design should be a reflection of you. Your home should mirror your personality and be a place that makes you feel comfortable and smile. I don’t necessarily believe that you have to place a “label” on your design style. My own design style is a mix of things. I enjoy bold colors, various patterns/textures, pieces that are kid friendly, and a little sparkle now and then. Designing a home on 1 income can be difficult, but I delight in the challenge! I love to look for bargains; clearance stickers are my best friends! Please take a moment to look at some projects, make some comments, and ask some questions!
